A Day in the Life - Carl Barât and Peter Doherty

Morning Music - Ipso Facto

I like these girls. Someone whose musical opinion I generally respect told me that they were like a "female The Horrors" - the main difference to me being that I can listen to Ipso Facto without getting a migraine.

Their Myspace

Their first single:
Ipso Facto - Harmonise

Harmonise

Silver cups and saucers whistle
When they're filled with wine.
I don't like their lonely lovesongs,
Cry with every line.

Harmonise with forks and knives.
Do they ever keep in time with me?
No never.

Wait with baited breath upon
The guests who wont arrive.
Face so red, I eat thier bread
As they eat my time.

Harmonise in white and black.
Dignity be given back to me?
No never.

Predictably the clock becomes
The ever present theme.
Blinking with the rhythmic tick
I fall into a dream.

Everyone I love was there,
Empty rooms and lonely chairs love me.
Forever.

Apparently no one has responded to my heartfelt request to remove all traces of Carl Barat from the internet so I could get some work done.

Fresh out as of this morning.

Some of you have seen this already, but for the rest of you....

The single will be released June 23, the album on June 30 - those are UK dates, don't know about the US.

I wasn't in love with this song the first time I heard it, but the video changes everything.

Lunchtime Jam - Old Skool

music love
This is the original video for this song - loose, playful and DIY - right up my alley.

The remade/pro version with the good lighting and choreography and expensive costumes is owned by Sony.

You cannot embed it.
You cannot copy it and upload to YouTube without receiving a notice that Sony is going to follow your every mood and count your views and your traffic.

Sony can kiss my ass.

So - the original video...NOT owned by Sony...

Spin Doctors - Two Princes

Lunchtime Jam - The Displacements

About a month ago, I was scrolling somewhere on the NME site (please don't ask) and the following assessment caught my eye:

Much better however are Leicester’s The Displacements, who resembles the Buzzcocks with an even softer heart, yet who rock like their lives might cease the moment they discover the fourth chord. Really, that’s all we ask.
- NME

My interest was piqued mildly, but I never followed through to find out what they were doing with the first three chords.
Last weekend they requested the Battered Suitcase myspace to "friend" (probably through networking with Fault magazine), so I thought I'd find out.

It's not love at first sight, but they're certainly worth a listen.
